Tree: Large, majestic tree with heavy, angular branches.
Wood: Pale yellow to pale brown wood. Annual hollow vein of varying tightness, depending on the plantation density.
Use: External woodwork, parquets, doors, panelling, frame structures.
Also used for boat-making, furniture, decorative panels, etc.
Sandvik stainless steel
The Sandvik stainless steel, developed by Opinel is renowed for its incomparable cutting qualities and does not require any special washing upkeen. The stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, giving it a good cutting edge and an excellent resistance to corrosion.
Virobloc double safety ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring was improved in 2000 on all the Opinel ranges. In addition to locking of the blade in the open position (safety of use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during carrying).
